USAID Bangladesh Promoted Plenary Aqua in 2022

Are you looking to avoid the messy and time consuming chore of shopping, cleaning, and cutting whole fish before a meal? Young graduates from the Fisheries and Marine Resource Technology Discipline at Khulna University have a solution for you. These youth entrepreneurs established an online platform named, "Plenary Aqua," to sell fresh, ready-to-cook (RTC) fish products to urban consumers. Initially they were lacking specialized support in marketing and branding to promote their business. To address these challenges, Plenary Aqua partnered with the Feed the Future Bangladesh Aquaculture and Nutrition project to support the young company as it worked to ensure proper hygienic standards at a new fish processing center and fulfill market demand for RTC products. The project linked Plenary Aqua with other market actors and helped them find support for website development, content creation, and social media marketing. As a result, Plenary Aqua’s sales have increased by over 20 percent since last year and in the last five months, the company sold fish worth over BDT 1.3 million. Anup Kumar Karmokar, CEO of Plenary Aqua stated, “We have faced a lot of challenges to launch this idea practically at the field level. Feed the Future Bangladesh Aquaculture and Nutrition project helped us to explore a new window of business opportunity and expand our market. I would like to thank USAID for their support."
